Speaking of foreclosures

Apologies to Ironwood, but it looks like the Pistons can no longer afford to hang with the elite.

The chemistry that defined the Pistons success is now in short supply. Detroit is rebuilding, and that makes for a chunky road. All good teams fade. Gotta enjoy the run when your team is hummin, and take the lumps when the ride is over. Brings to mind a little Run DMC: Its like that, and that's the way it is.

  • We've all known the pain of rebuilding in the past few years. I saw the Pistons vs. Wolves this week and, yeah...welcome to the club Ironwood. Never had time for a blog post, but let my comment suffice. The best players out there were Rasheed and Stuckey. Rasheed was not gonna be outrebounded by too-short Al or rookie Love, and he hit a million 3's, giving a classic demonstration of his well-known inside out skills.

Now that I've seen Stuckey play (after hearing the analysts rave about him in the playoffs last year and not getting it) I can see why either AI or Rip had to sit down. He is pure court presence, skill, muscle, speed and determination. Tay is as good as a supporter can be, but that's all he will ever be. Rip and AI were both on the downside...Amir Johnson has a long way to go, and was not impressive. But he is still young.

Luckily, with Dumars running things, and Stuckey at the helm on the court, the Pistons will not fall as far as the Blazers/Wolves/Celtics before they bottom, and bounce back up. They may pull off a rebuild and manage to make the playoffs every year.

I love watching Sheed....and the sheer presence of all those Pistons makes them a fun team of icon players, so if you're gonna rebuild, this is not a bad way to go. Definitely missing Chauncey, but AI comes off the books next year. Probably the best for everyone, given the Butler's success in Denver.

    Overheard at Wolves Pistons:
-"Did you see that bullshit???" (Sheed to the ref after Craig Smith flailed through a crowd, and flipped up a shot with his unusual release.)
-"They found out I have skills, so they are benching me so they don't have to pay me." (Rashad McCants to Sheed on the way into the arena).
-"cheer Cheer CHEER CHEER!...hushhhhh" (Wolves crowd quieted by Rasheed raining 3's every time down the floor as the Wolves lost the small lead they'd had all game in a well-played, but well-deserved loss.)

  • I was working up to a post that says many of the same things articulated here by Mike and Dave. It's a tough year in Motown for all kinds of reasons. The AI trade is a disaster so far and it's consensus that it was a salary dump through and through by Joe D. What I don't understand is why they aren't trying Iverson off the bench. His instant offense game seems much better suited than Rip's rhythm action for a sixth man role.

Interesting to read the good words about Rasheed. He's had a slight uptick lately, but this year seems to be one in which he's noticeably lost a step and there have been many nights of substandard effort. In other words, he shares the blame in the decline.

I miss Chauncey and I find Pistons games are no longer anywhere near as fun to watch anymore.

I can't really complain, though. It was a good run with many great moments. And there are some good blocks in place. If Tay gets moved I would be terribly sad, but I hope he would go somewhere his talents would be appreciated and maximized.
