Yeah, it sucks, but a city needs a paper and it won't help the city if it goes away. The nightmare of America I envision in the future is completely walmartified--you will be in a city but not know which one because they all look alike and all sell USA Todays. I also know from experience that as bad as the Strib is, the Oregonian is worse--and I think that comes at least partly because there are two competing papers here, which helps the Strib to some degree.
