Free Paul Millsap?

Well...not free anymore...time's ticking on the Jazz, and Paul Millsap will soon be making beaucoup bucks.

I'm loving the Blazers offer to Millsap. I would enjoy seeing him Blazin', but even if he ends up back in Utah, it's good that the Jazz hands were forced and he will be getting seriously paid. Hope Boozer gets shipped too, a few times, especially after what he did to the Cavs.

Anyone else liking any team's moves besides C's/Sheed? The Spurs did very, very well - Jefferson, McDyess, Blair at 37. The best are all getting better. Meanwhile, it's sinking in that, draft day possibilities aside, the Wolves are seriously gonna suck this year...

  • Well, I pretty much hate the Pistons FA moves, to tell the truth. They overpaid for Gordon and Twitter man Charlie V. Kind of reminds me of the Stacy Augmon/Grant Long panic signings of the summer of 96 after the Allen Houston defection which ensured mediocrity for years. Gordon is feast or famine and it's all about him. Might call him Goron (no D). If he were happy in the Microwave role (which he won't be), that would be better, but can you really pay that much for a microwave? Effectively replacing Sheed with Charlie V will be a problem, too. Roughly the same offensive game but without Sheed's post play (not that he used it much in later years) and defense. Both are substandard rebounders. And I'm afraid they are going to trade Rip for a standard big, which they desperately need, but still.

I've been wrong about Joe D. moves before and I hope that's the case here, but I'm not feeling the new look Pistons. I'm afraid the D's hoops team will face the same decline as the city as a whole. Alas...

  • I agree, Tom. Does that put them even close to over the top? Not unless we see some mad Pistons-style team synergy occur, in which case Dumars is crowned true super-genius. Or unless there's another move...but...how?

Meanwhile, Truehoop weighs in on Blazers' motives on Millsap.

  • I don't want to pile on but I can't figure out what the Pistons are doing.

I like Sheed (and long-time Me-Wolf Marquis Daniels) to the Celtics. Sheed may have nothing left, but it's worth a shot - he really only has to be good in April, May & June for it to be worth it.

For the Spurs to get Blair is basically criminal.

The other team that has had a great off-season is the Magic. Vince+Bass+keeping Gortat > Hedo+Rafer+Lee.

I'm not loving the Shaq to the Cavs thing (though they didn't give up anything) but I like adding Parker and especially Moon. The East playoffs should be brutal.

I don't like the Ariza for Artest trade for the Lakers - my guess is Pau loses shots, which is stupid for them.

As for the Wolves, yes they are going to lose a lot, but at least there are some genuine reasons to be interested. I think Rubio will play this year, which means you have four guys that all might be good enough to be good players on a championship team. That's three more than they had 15 months ago.
