Uninvited Company

Funny you should ask Ironwood. Guess I was waiting til the Blaze crew lost one (they fell to a tough Jazz team about five minutes ago).

13 straight wins. I coulda never predicted it. Josh, Dave and I have been throwing around guess about this year's win total since drafting Oden. High and lows. None of us had them winning more than 38 once Oden went down. . . and it was 38 on the outside; most of us landed at 34-35.

All the sudden these blossoming Blazers rip off 13 straight. They sit ahead of Utah in the standings, after beating both the Jazz and the Division leading Nugs twice each in December. At 18-13, they have played the 4th toughest schedule in the League. Now are discussions are about making the playoffs.

WTF.

So what going on? Brandon Roy is phenomenal. He appears to have that intangible feel for the game possessed by some many of the greats. Roy always seems to be moving slowly, even as he out-quicks his opponents. That matrix, ninja type shit that defies explanation. He finds the open guy. Makes the big stop on D. Hits the clutch shot.

Around him, coach Nate McMilan has structured a defensive oriented team that runs a disciplined and efficient offense. LaMarcus Aldridge is an All-League talent on both sides of the ball. Travis Outlaw has (finally) emerged into unique NBA force with his length, athleticism and shooting range. Martell Webster has brought a physicality to his deadly long range game. James Jones has brought veteran savy and the deep ball. Joel Przybilla, Jarret Jack, Steve Blake, and Channing Frye are all nightly contributors.

Youngest in the League they may be, but they have a team cohesion that allows them to play with efficiency and confidence. Real nice basketball to watch.

Now I gotta a question for you, Mr. Motown Motor Mouth: What is with the halftime show that the Pistons run featuring two frat/sorority type beautiful people talking hot stock tips at a bar? Not that I am holding you responsible, but their 'sure am frickin happy to be rich' smiles made my stomach turn.

  • You calling me a motor mouth? Now that's a good one.

Thanks for the Blazer update, great post. Interesting times out west, I never would have called that run. I had them wallowing with the real bottom feeders this year.

As for the Pistons halftime show, how should I know? The better question is why are you watching that? You can't get a free t-shirt fired at you through the tv, you know.

Pistons now have the longest active win streak--it'll be put to the test when the C's come to town hell-bent on revenge.
