Inconsequential Draft React

All right - here's a two-minute clip of Shatner Kirk in Daniel Martinico's 15-minute movie, Khaan!, which is a loop of James Kirk winding up to scream the name of the evil Mr. Rorke in The Wrath of Khan. Spoiler: there's 1 yell for each PG the Wolves took last night.

I was thrilled Rubio dropped, but it looks like it might lead to some drama about whether he's afraid of the cold, and whether he'll come here or not. Sorry Ricky, there's only room for one Favre in this town. But you knew it might happen, and I guess Khan probably knew too -- that's why they grabbed Flynn at 6, who seemed to be their guy they fell in love with. And picking him took some stones after Rubio. Khan has clarified his motivations in a letter here, which I find refreshing...and is about what I figured...although I'm sure there's a possibility one of them gets traded. Doesn't hurt to stockpile assets at this stage in the Wolves rebuilding. I'm glad they grabbed Ellington at 28 so we at least have a shooting guard who can shoot.

My favorite part of the draft was when Rubio dropped to the Wolves, and I got all excited, and made Michelle watch the post-pick interview. Ricky said in a heavy accent, "I'm Ricky Rubio— I'm not like steef nuts...I'm not like anybody else." I started laughing, and I asked Michelle, "did he just say, "I'm not like Stiff Nuts?" No way! What does that phrase mean in Spanish?" And deadpan, she's like, "Uh...Steve Nash."

Khan: It's On!

After years of having no first rounders, the Wolves suddenly own 4 after trading Foye and Miller to the Wiz. Both were underwhelming last year, so I think it's a fine move. They might've been able to get more for Miller at the deadline, but the time to move was now...especially if they could make a play for Rubio as well -- or if they stand pat, reshape the backcourt with two picks in a row. At least I won't have to look at Foye anymore and wish he was Roy. We'll see what shapes up as the draft moves closer. (Yes...we...Khan!)

Also, and probably more importantly, Mike, Jon G and I have started making a mix CD by taking turns sending each other songs. Now Jongo put up a blog for it called Euterpe's Bird, and we wanted to be sure to share it with y'all moonball readers. Start from the bottom, and work backwards for the full effect. More will be posted soon, for sure.

I don't know if the concept of a mix these days is still restricted to a CD length, or if it's now as many songs as you can fit on a playlist's drive space. But what I do know is there are some great songs on there already, so it will be a great musical accompaniment to your Moonball Blog reading pleasure. Salama!

Well, that sucked

"Congratulations" to Lord Kobe-mort. Now can we please start forgetting about the Lakers?

I thought the BSM had a good take on the finals. I will say, despite some of his less than savory opinions, I am curious about his 700 page NBA book.

If you haven't seen it, solid post by Britt on McHale finally getting the ax in Minnesota. It should be interesting to see what if anything Kahn gets done on draft night - it does seem clear they are trying to get Rubio, which to me is worth it. He might be a bust, but it's easy to forget that he's been playing at a very high level in Europe for two years and he's still only 18. He's the only guy in this draft to me that seems like he could be the best player on a very good team. I don't think there's a great chance of that happening, but it's at least a chance.

Newer versions of characters rarely meet up. Dwight Howard hopes Phil Jackson doesn't have a pocket full of kryptonite.

Brings up an funny question - what's Bryant's weakness?
